Coco-Ivy’s love for music and dance has always been apparent, we particularly noticed how much she has enjoyed watching Strictly Come Dancing and X Factor from as young as one year old. She enjoyed dancing and singing along in the living room with such intensity like a proper little diva. It became obvious she enjoys an audience so, Sean and I both agreed that she would be more than ready to attend a baby ballet class as soon as she reached her second birthday.
We are members at the Milton Keynes Nuffield Health, Fitness and wellbeing gym who offer a thirty minute baby ballet class for two to five year olds. We had previously seen the lovely dance instructor called Lauren at work, having a natural and nurturing but no nonsense approach of teaching a room full of potential prima ballerinas, so we knew that she would be the perfect person for Coco-Ivy’s very first introduction to the world of dance.
We booked the lessons, then the next exciting thing on the list was shopping for Coco-Ivy’s first pair of ballet shoes and of course her first ever ballet dress.
We headed to a lovely little dance wear boutique called,’ Soul 2 Sole Dancewear’ in Stony Stratfford . The lovely lady serving us made the experience of buying Coco-Ivy’s very first pair of ballet shoes a very intimate and special affair. She was so friendly and positive with Coco-Ivy and our little future diva prima ballerina behaved very well indeed, thank goodness!
The lovely lady lovingly gift wrapped the shoes in tissue paper and a gorgeous pink paper bag and finished the bag off with a matching pink curly ribbon.
Coco-Ivy can spot a good sticker book a mile away so we couldn’t say no to the lovely ‘My first Ballerina sticker book’.
Coco-Ivy also spotted the sugary treats in the corner.
Armed with her pretty pink gift bag, a freddo frog chocolate bar and sticker book to boot Coco-Ivy was ready to go.
Now time to find a ballet dress! We looked around the high street as the beautiful dresses in the Dancewear boutique were a bit pricey for a fast-growing two year old. We found the perfect pink tulle number in H&M for an affordable price of £12.99.
At home Coco-Ivy was eager to unwrapp her ballet attire.
She enjoys practicing her dance or just having and enjoying role play with her favourite dolls and peep pig teddies at home in her dress.
Or just having a chill watching a bit of tv.
She is definitely a natural.
Lauren is the most amazing ballet teacher, I’m sure she will be running her own successful dance school some day.
Having a cuddle with lovely Lauren.
We definitely made the right decision taking Coco-Ivy to experience and take part in something she enjoys. It’s not only a wonderful opportunity for her to develop her dance skills. Whilst having fun she is also developing her social skills practicing turn taking, gaining independence, listening to and following instructions, supporting her dance class buddies and making new friendships with her peers.
I hope you enjoyed this post.
I would love to hear about your dance class experiences or any future plans you may have to share.
Lot’s of love

I LOVE this blog. I swear it would make a lovely children’s book story. It reminded me of my Daughter also who started ballet at 3. My Daughter, like yours, has always loved music and dancing, I swear music flows through her veins. She recently decided to give up horseback riding to pursue gymnastics and dance and I do believe she will be an amazing dancer one day. Thank you for sharing this beautiful story about your little princess, she is beautiful.
